The wine takes its name from the Mamertines, a population of Campania origin, who in 289 BC planted "a valuable vine for the production of a valuable wine" in Milazzo and the surrounding area. Famous because Julius Caesar offered it on the occasion of the banquet to celebrate his third consulate and also mentioned in "De Bello Gallico". Strabone, the great geographer, classified Mamertine among the best wines of the time and even Pliny placed it in fourth place in a classification of 195 wines. Today Mamertino is a DOC wine established by decree dated 03/09/2004.
Continuing we will finally arrive at Punta Mazza , a fascinating place with geological and naturalistic peculiarities, from where we will admire the splendid panorama of the eastern coast.
The ring path ends near the Cantine Planeta, where there will be a small guided tour with an explanation of the processes that lead to the production of wine that comes from the vineyards you have just visited. Following, the tasting of the wines produced in Capo Milazzo, the "Mamertino" and the "Nocera".
