LEGEND:

Ponente Beach in Milazzo is a fascinating place that has inspired many legends and interesting stories. One of these legends tells that on the rocky area where the castle stands, there was the dwelling of the Cyclops Polyphemus.

According to Greek mythology, Polyphemus was one of the Cyclopes, sons of Poseidon. It is said that he possessed extraordinary strength and lived in a cave on Ponente Beach. Here, the Cyclops imprisoned Odysseus and his companions, trying to capture them to devour them. Odysseus allegedly tricked Polyphemus by blinding him with a spear and escaping the cave with his companions.

Even today, on Ponente Beach, you can find some caves among the rocks that seem to recall Polyphemus' dwelling. It is said that in these caves, one can still perceive the presence of the Cyclops and his thunderous breath.
