A popular legend tells of a young mermaid who, falling in love with a young fisherman, would approach the Piscine di Venere to meet him at night. It is said that the two were so close that the man, who became a lucky fisherman thanks to the mermaid's advice, decided to build her a small cave where she could rest sheltered from the sea currents.
