HOW TO GET
A NATURAL PARADISE TO DISCOVER.
After years of anticipation, in March 2019, the area of Capo Milazzo became a Marine Protected Area.
This promontory, located between the Gulf of Patti and the Gulf of Milazzo, is a true treasure of biodiversity, with unique and precious naturalistic features. With its rugged coastline overlooking emerald green waters teeming with marine life, the Marine Protected Area of Capo Milazzo offers an explosion of nature, transforming into an authentic natural paradise.
A place of biodiversity and natural beauty, the Marine Protected Area of Capo Milazzo harbors a wealth of flora and fauna that makes it unique. The rugged coastline, with its colors and scents, is mirrored in splendid waters, creating a scenario of rare beauty. The area is characterized by shoals rich in marine fauna and flora, contributing to exceptional biodiversity.
The history and importance of Capo Milazzo. Capo Milazzo, at the tip of the eponymous peninsula, was once one of the Aeolian Islands. Over the centuries, due to river floods, it became connected to the mainland. Its ancient origins and natural beauty make it an integral part of the archipelago and deserving of appreciation. The combination of the terrestrial Reserve of Capo Milazzo and the Marine Reserve offers a complex naturalistic scenario with diversified habitats.
The purity of the waters and the Posidonia meadow. The waters around Capo Milazzo are pristine thanks to the currents that repel pollution from cities and industries. This pristine environment has favored the development of an extensive Posidonia meadow, an aquatic plant vital for marine fauna. The Posidonia meadow provides food and shelter for a variety of stationary and migratory shellfish and fish, turning the waters of Capo into a true natural fish nursery.
Conservation and sustainable promotion. The Marine Reserve plays a fundamental role in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable fishing practices. It guarantees exclusive rights to local fishermen in the area, thus preserving an anthropological tradition rooted in the territory and promoting a Mediterranean culture that fascinates tourists. Moreover, the Reserve offers opportunities for sustainable tourism, allowing divers and sea lovers to explore its waters and enjoy coastal itineraries both on land and at sea, circumnavigating Capo Milazzo.
LEGEND:
The legend of Elena Baele is a fascinating story that adds a romantic and melancholic touch to the beauty of the Cliffs of Capo in Milazzo. The story tells of the tragic love between Elena, a young woman of noble lineage, and the son of a farmer. Despite their social differences, the two fall madly in love.
When Elena's father discovers the relationship, he decides to separate the two lovers by dismissing the farmer's family and paying a large sum of money. The young man then decides to enlist as a mercenary soldier, but his story tragically ends with his death.
Unable to bear the loss of her beloved, Elena throws herself from the cliff of the Cliffs of Capo, now known as "u sauto cabaddu" (the horse's leap). It is said that on summer nights, Elena can still be seen on horseback near the cliff, desperately searching for her beloved.
But Elena's presence does not evoke fear or terror. On the contrary, those who see her are overwhelmed by great emotion in the face of such a tragic and passionate love story. The legend of Elena Baele adds an aura of romanticism and melancholy to the Cliffs of Capo, making the atmosphere of this enchanting place even more captivating.
